Larsen delivers Supervalu !

The Singletons Supervalu store in Hollyhill,Cork has recently completed a major extension and refurbishment, including the installation of a Degafloor MMA resin flooring system.

The store, part of the hugely successful Musgrave Retail Partners programme, had been heavily over trading and was in desperate need of extra retail space and a re-fresh of the store design. However, as the store needed to continue to trade throughout the works, it was essential that a highly experienced contractor was appointed to handle the size and complexity of the project. Accordingly, the client decided to appoint Larsen Contracts, one of the best known specialist flooring contractors inIreland, to all flooring works, including screeding and resin finishes.

After initial consultation, site assessment and approval by Musgrave’s store development team, Larsen Contracts installed two different types of Degafloor MMA resin flooring within the store. Degafloor’s ultra fast curing decorative flake system was adopted the main store areas, where speed of installation, durability and aesthetics were amongst the top priorities.

All food preparation and servery received the Degafloor FB system, which provides a heavy duty, slip resistant finish.

The unique chemical bonding which is characteristic of all Degafloor MMA resin flooring systems, guarantees superb performance and durability, whilst the seamless finish eliminates the cracks and joints that can harbour dirt and food spills, making the floors hygienic, easy to clean and particularly attractive for a retail environment.

Larsen Contracts installed more than 1100m2 of flooring in phases over 5 visits, each being completed during a short 9pm to 7am period, ensuring absolute minimal disruption to the client and their customers. Each phase was completed within the ‘live shop’ including all preparatory works, so at the start of every shift extensive preparation work was undertaken, including stripping out temporary fixtures, relocating stock and screening all stock. At the end of each shift, the workspace was dis-assembled and the store re-merchandised for the day ahead, only for the cycle to start again the next night.

The project was a completed on time and is a huge success, with Singletons Supervalu now welcoming even more customers to their impressive new store.

The Concrete floor in Dargan Road Waste Treatment facility in Belfast had been subject to constant wear and tear caused by 30 tonne loading shovels moving waste into bunkers. In this form of environment the floor is exposed to conditions that constantly stress and eventually damage the floor surface.

Following site survey, Larsen Contracts identified a unique solution to the problem recommending the installation of highly abrasive resistant topping system ( Densitop®) for the 1200m2 of concrete flooring at the facility. Densitop® is a thin high strength cement based wearing course for use in extreme environments. Densitop® can be applied on both new and existing concrete

Larsen Contracts undertook necessary concrete repairs to the surface including scabbling. Following application of Densit primer with Densitop® then applied to the surface. The works took 6 weeks to complete whilst the facility was out of service and was completed on budget on time

A team of five personnel from Larsen Contracts recently underwent an intense training course for approved contractor training of the Structherm Structural Cladding System and External Wall Insulation.

The unique Structherm Structural Insulated Cladding system is a cost effective method of extending the life of a defective building. It provides a rigid, structurally continuous envelope around the building with a render finish and is a real alternative to demolition. External Wall Insulation (EWI) used for building refurbishment comes with a variety of CFC and HCFC free insulants, providing a high degree of thermal efficiency, vapour permeability and impact resistance.

Larsen Contracts who have over 30 years’ experience in the discipline of Concrete Repair and other specialist contracting services are now very well placed to deliver a one stop solution either as main or sub-contractor in a variety of refurbishment projects from high rise and low rise social housing to schools ,colleges and commercial buildings .

Strutherm’s Marketing Director Yvonne Coldwell said “Larsen Contracts were chosen as an approved installation Contractor ( AIC) as they offer an established, highly skilled and professional work force with relevant skills and experience in our target markets ”

Mark Murphy of Larsen Contracts commented, “With the government’s commitment to Carbon Reduction through recent and upcoming legislation requiring improvements in the thermal efficiency of buildings, there is a high demand for these Structherm products. External wall insulation and Structural cladding are a particularly good fit for our wide experience in Concrete Repair and balcony water proofing and other ancillary services in the social housing sector.”
