Case Study- Primark Worcester

Project Details

  • Client: Primark, Worcester
  • Main Contractor: McLaughlin & Harvey
  • Specialist Contractor: Larsen Contracts Ltd
  • Application: Lift Pit Waterproofing
  • Market: Retail

Primark, which is owned by Associated British Foods (ABF,) appointed McLaughlin & Harvey as their design and refurbishment contractor to revamp the old BHS store at Crowngate Shopping Centre under their European expansion plans. The relocation of the goods and passenger lifts required enlargement and excavation below the water table and the casting of new reinforcement concrete basements. Larsen Contracts were engaged to ensure that the new structures were water tight prior to the installation of the new lift equipment. De Neef hydrophilic injection resin, HA Cut, was selected to inject into the day and kicker joints. A serious of injection cavities were drilled at approx 300mm centres followed by the insertion ofhammer packers, used for speed. A single component injection pump placed the resin under pressure allowing a continuous line of polyurethane resin to be injected to prevent ingress of the ground water. The detailed specification required the concrete surface to be mechanically prepared before the application of a cementitious , “Aquatex” waterproof tanking system supplied by De Neef in two coats.
