Allergan is a global speciality pharmaceutical and medical device company that was established in 1977 based in Westport, Co. Mayo. Its current facility has grown to over 500,000 sq ft on a 30 acre campus and includes state of the art chemistry, microbiology and stability laboratories. Larsen Contracts were invited to upgrade the existing Terrazzo flooring at Allergan Pharmaceuticals Ireland as its many years of service had taken its toll on the flooring. As Health & Safety was a major factor when carrying out this project  Larsen Contracts had to liaise with the client on a day-to-day basis to arrange access to the work area.

Prior to Larsen Contracts starting the work on site, the area had to be protected as all of the sensitive equipment and air handling units had to be sealed and covered as they could not be removed from the room. Extraction ducting was set up to remove all dust particles from the air during the grinding and polishing operations.

The scope of works included removing the defective terrazzo from the channel and mechanically preparing the existing substrate to achieve a mechanical key. The substrate had to be checked for moisture content and primed with Larcote DPM or Resdev SF depending on the moisture content reading. The following day the new Terrazzo was applied into the old channel and the floor power washed to remove any old debris that may have been present in the pores of the old floor and then the floor was ground under vacuum. Resdev Pumazzo grout was then applied to fill all pin holes and allowed to cure overnight. Finally 2-3 coats of polish were applied to the floor before opening to traffic.

This fast track project was delivered to the agreed programme and exceeded the Client’s expectations as the workmanship was to a high standard.
